Dry Needling

Dry needling is a popular modern treatment used for relieving pain and improving range of motion.

It is called “dry” because the fine filiform needles are not medicated and do not inject fluid into the body.

The dry needles are inserted into trigger points or other tissue to help alleviate musculoskeletal pain and spasm.

This incredible tool can provide relief for many conditions, improve flexibility and mobility.

Many health care providers use this method for the treatment of sports injuries, muscle pain and even chronic pain syndrome.

There are very minimal side effects to dry needling but you might experience slight bleeding, bruising and short term soreness.

It is important to note that acupuncture is not the same as dry needling. Though they may look similar, acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine.

At The Chiro Boutique, we offer dry needling as a way to supplement your rehabilitation as we believe it is a powerful tool to help your body function optimally.

What is a trigger point?

It is a taut band of the skeletal muscles’ fascia or a hyper irritable spot. A trigger point is palpable, meaning you can touch and feel for it.

Direct touch to this spot can cause the “jump sign”, which is when people are startled by the pain and react to the pressure that is being applied.

We all have trigger points within our body and can show up even in babies and toddlers, although trigger points in this age group might present differently, as their muscle tissue is not as stressed as an adults’.
